Cushion vs. Pneumatic Tires
- → Cushion tires. Smooth solid rubber. Lower profile, tighter turning radius. Made for flat, smooth surfaces — warehouse floors, loading docks, concrete yards. Can't handle gravel, dirt or rough pavement. Lower rental cost.
- → Pneumatic tires. Air-filled or solid pneumatic. Higher ground clearance, better traction. Handles rough surfaces — asphalt, gravel, uneven ground. Required if the forklift goes outside at all. Slightly higher rental cost.
If you're strictly indoors on smooth concrete, cushion tires save money and maneuver tighter. If the forklift touches any outdoor surface — even a loading dock apron — go pneumatic. Not sure? Tell us your application and we'll recommend the right tire type.
Electric vs. Propane
- → Electric. Zero emissions, low noise. Required for indoor food production, pharmaceutical, clean room environments. Needs charging infrastructure (8-hour charge or opportunity charging). Best for single-shift operations.
- → Propane (LP). Refuel in 5 minutes with a tank swap. Runs all day without downtime. Indoor/outdoor use. More power for heavy loads and inclines. Produces some emissions — need ventilation for enclosed spaces. Best for multi-shift and high-throughput operations.
How to Choose the Right Capacity
Don't just match the forklift capacity to your heaviest pallet. Factor in the load center — the distance from the fork face to the center of gravity of the load. A 5,000 lb forklift rated at a 24-inch load center drops to about 4,000 lb effective capacity at a 36-inch load center. Oversized pallets, long loads and uneven weight distribution all reduce effective capacity.
For most Houston warehouse operations, a 5,000 lb forklift handles standard pallet loads (palletized goods, boxed inventory, shrink-wrapped product). If you're stacking double-deep or handling steel, concrete or heavy machinery components, step up to 6,000 lb or consider a rough terrain unit with higher capacity.
What's Included With Every Rental
Every warehouse forklift rental includes a pre-delivery inspection covering brakes, hydraulics, mast operation, tires, horn, lights and all safety features. We deliver the unit fueled (propane) or fully charged (electric). If anything breaks during your rental, we handle the repair or swap the unit — no charge. Propane tank exchange service is available for long-term rentals so you never run dry.
Need accessories? We stock fork extensions, side shifters, load backrests and propane cage racks. Add them to your quote and they'll arrive with the forklift.
