Order Picker Rental in Houston
Man-up order pickers lift the operator to the pick level. Instead of bringing the pallet down, the operator rides up and picks individual cases, parts or items directly from the shelf. 20–30 foot lift height for high-bay picking operations.

Best Applications
- → E-commerce fulfillment. Houston's booming e-commerce warehouse sector needs order pickers for individual item and case picking. High-velocity SKUs on lower levels, slower-moving inventory up high.
- → Parts warehouses. Automotive, industrial, electrical and plumbing distributors with thousands of SKUs stored in bin shelving and carton flow racks.
- → Pharmaceutical distribution. Temperature-controlled picking for pharmaceutical and medical supply distribution. Order pickers access individual cases from high-density racking.
Safety Requirements
OSHA requires operators to wear a body harness and lanyard attached to the platform's anchor point whenever the platform is elevated. Our order pickers come with OSHA-compliant anchor points and we provide harness sets with each rental. Operators must be trained and certified — we offer operator training if your team needs it.
Order Picker vs. Reach Truck
Both handle narrow aisles. The key difference: a reach truck moves full pallets. The forks go up while the operator stays on the ground. An order picker lifts the operator to the shelf. You pick individual items by hand and place them on the platform pallet.
Reach trucks are faster for full-pallet work. Order pickers are more efficient for piece-picking from mixed-SKU shelving. Most high-volume warehouses run both — reach trucks for putaway and replenishment, order pickers for outbound order fulfillment.
Battery Life and Charging
Order pickers run on electric batteries. A full charge lasts 5-7 hours of continuous picking. The frequent up-and-down motion uses more power than horizontal travel, so battery life depends heavily on picking density. High-velocity operations with constant elevation changes drain the battery faster.
Our rental units come with an onboard charger. Plug in during lunch breaks for opportunity charging or charge overnight for the next shift. If you're running multi-shift operations, ask about units with swappable battery packs — change the battery in 10 minutes and keep picking.
Short-Term vs. Long-Term Rental
Daily and weekly rentals work for seasonal spikes, inventory counts and temporary projects. Monthly rates make sense for ongoing operations where you need extra capacity but don't want to buy. If you're renting the same order picker for 12+ months, talk to us about a lease arrangement — the monthly cost drops significantly and you lock in the rate.
Aisle Width and Warehouse Layout
Order pickers operate in aisles as narrow as 5 feet. Before renting, measure your rack-to-rack aisle width and clear height. If your aisles are 8-10 feet wide, a standard order picker works fine. Below 6 feet, you need a narrow-aisle model with wire guidance or rail guidance. We'll match the right unit to your racking layout.
Floor condition matters too. Order pickers need smooth, level concrete. Cracks, expansion joints and uneven slabs cause the mast to sway at height. If your warehouse floor has significant damage, the safety system may prevent the platform from rising. We can assess your floor during a pre-rental site visit.
Houston Industries Using Order Pickers
E-commerce fulfillment centers along the I-10 and I-45 corridors are our biggest order picker rental customers. Auto parts distributors, pharmaceutical warehouses, food and beverage distribution and electronics fulfillment operations all rely on order pickers for piece-level picking. Houston's growing warehouse market means new facilities are opening constantly — and many start with rental equipment before committing to a purchase.
